Senior Systems Administrator

General Statement of Duties

Contributes to design, integration, and ongoing maintenance/support over a hybrid corporate/cloud environment, comprising both physical and virtual machines.  Also responsible for assisting with desktop, server, and local-office infrastructural administration and management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Setup and maintain server, workstation, desktop, virtual-machine assets
    • Evaluate, test and deploy corporate software solutions with aforementioned
    • Apply patches (Linux, Windows, VMware, Amazon, small-office appliances)
    • Perform hardware updates as required
    • Evaluate and deploy hardware replacements, peripheral devices, backups
    • Provide orientation, guidance, and hands-on support to seventy-user base
  • Support applications necessary for corporate operations
    • Includes support of printers, OS licensing, cable-modem/satellite uplink, VoIP telephony
    • Includes business level apps such as financial, email, document repository, etc.
  • Respond to support requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist in planning, installation, configuration and management of IT/server systems to ensure reliable, secure, and cost-effective delivery of services.
  • Help identify and resolve all hardware and software technical problems that impact corporate and production services. Keeps affected clients informed as to status of problem until eventual resolution. May require after-hours or weekend work.
  • Communicate system changes and outages with end users and customer support, enabling proactive handling of incidents and changes
  • Maintain documentation to improve reliability and speedy troubleshooting
  • Configure monitoring, backup, failover/replication utilities
  • Ongoing research and recommendation of solutions/tools to improve current processes, enhance system performance, and increase environmental stability

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience with CentOS, RedHat, and/or Ubuntu Linux
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows 7, 10, Server 2012, Server 2016
  • Experience with business-class desktop, laptop, server, storage hardware
  • Experience with systems management and monitoring tools
  • Experience with virtualization (KVM, VMware, or Xen) hypervisor platforms
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Must understand and follow standard workflow, issue tracking procedures
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and project deliverables
  • BA/BS degree in a related field of study or equivalent industry experience
  • 5-8 years of experience in an IT or related technical support role
  • Experience with public cloud (Amazon, Azure, equiv.) technology a plus
  • Experience with container (Docker, Kubernetes) technology a plus
  • Knowledge of Android, iOS and macOS a plus
  • Networking knowledge and/or certifications a plus
